ABOUT

The Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon & Squirrelly Six Mile is part running race, part costume party, and is truly among the most unique events you'll ever do! Be on the look out for gorillas that have gone bananas, nutty squirrels, graves with your own names on them, and other inanity to keep you smiling and enjoying the beautiful views that await!

OVERVIEW

This is a trail race, run entirely on the property of John Boyd Thacher State Park. Both the six mile and half marathon are run simultaneously on the same course. It is nearly identical to the 10K/Half Marathon courses from the Thacher Park Trail Running Festival.
THE FIRST 6 MILES
The race begins with a 600 meter loop around the field and then heads north along the Escarpment towards Hailes Cave Pavilion. It then runs on the wide grass field parallel to the Long Path before joining the Long Path and running a loop in the north section of the park. The first 1.25m is the same as the final 1.25m.
The LAST 7.1 MILES
The second part of the course begins with a beautiful stretch along the fence line of the park. It then heads up the hill by the Paint Mine trailhead to Beaver Dam Rd. After that nearly mile long ascent, the rest of the race is mostly flat or downhill.

CUT-OFFS

The following requirements are in place based upon our permit and for the management of course volunteers and event operations.
